Byron, you're always too kind. Actually my allusion to the dependence on the Bells was meant in a kind of double entendre... since they represent a kind of innovation bottleneck, as well as the one that stifles access to bandwidth. We're limited in the things that are immediately achievable in this space without them, save for some limited situations where Cable modem and DSL/wireless services support VoIP, which are gaining ground, but still paltry, IMO.
So, maybe it's not such a bad thing after all that the Bells are dragging their feet. A lot of unsolved mysteries must be undone in VoIP technologies before we can look forward to bringing it free-form through novel access arrangements. But I'm optimistic that this will be achieved in due time, maybe sooner than a lot of folks think. Some level of sustained structure from the BOCs, however, maybe isn't all such a bad thing, until things get sorted out. That was the longer version of my previous message.
>...you pick a name.<
Someday, Byron, but it ain't soup yet.
