John, I am not a Prechter fan or devotee, although I find his reading very interesting and dark. Bear markets typically retrace 50% of the previous Bull Market's gains. I am going back here to December 94 where the Dow was at 3600. 9300-3600 = 5700 points. That gives us 2850 points on the downside. This would keep the Grand Bull Market Cycle Intact. I am bullish long term. Perma Bears go back to 1982 where the Dow was at 800. 9300-800 = 8500 points. A 50% retracement here brings us to about Dow 5000 and the beginning of a Grand BEAR MARKET SUPER CYCLE. One can get a corrective rally to Dow 7000 and then another decisive leg down. I don't want to get to far ahead of myself here. IF Dow 6450 does not hold, then the Perma Bears, like Prechter are right.
That is the debate going on right now: Is this a Bear Market within an overall Bullish Trend or the beginning of a New Bearish Trend? No one knows for sure here yet: there is no confirmation by the tape.
One thing is for sure: Swift action is needed by the Fed and the Japanese Gov't to stimulate consumer demand.
I am going to be very honest here: I am very worried and full of fear. The right things need to be done here. I want to see the Fed ease by a 100 basis points by the end of the Year. A quarter point ease will produce a major sell off in the financial markets after a brief rally for a day or two. Why? talk.techstocks.com

I love this country with a passion in spite of its faults. I was born in NYC in 53. We moved to Israel when I was a young boy and I received my elementary school education there. I came back for the 7th grade and I have remained here ever since. My grandparents had no money when they came to this country at the beginning of the 20th Century. They came when they were young children from France, Poland and Russia to experience FREEDOM. They became rich through hard work and by buying properties during the Great Depression. They always told me that America was the greatest country in the World. I agree. But Greatness needs to be re-affirmed again and again as we rise to the challenges of our times.
I will cover my shorts at Dow 6900 and do my small part to preserve the long Bull Market uptrend here. I want to see the Bear bottom out before 6450.

P.S. It's the Year Of the Yankees again. World Series Champs in 98!
