I have been to local COMPUSA, Circuit City, Good Guys and Computer city over the last weekend and yesterday. I was amazed to see PC isles empty. Even the sales guys told me there is'nt much PC business. This is in the silicon valley , California where there are supposed to be lot of PC nerds and geeks always looking for "neat" gadgets to play with. One thing I noticed though is that WEBTV is selling well. I tried the webtv myself and was very impressed with its VCR like simple set-top box and remote control. I bet this WebTV will be very popular with 68% of the non-pc savvy households who are comfortable with TV like look and feel! One sales guy admitted that every WebTV sold is one less PC sold! Think about that! 97 may be a volatile year for PC-makers and their chip suppliers.
