I know MCD approved another $ 2 bil stock buyback. This, no doubt, provide a liquid market for execs to sell options and would provide support for stock in the short term. It seems, though, like it would be a lousy deal for the company for the long term if they are buying at a high price.

It seems to me that the scenario for MCD's dramatic rise this year, after several year of not doing much have disappeared.. The foreign markets..which was their big target..don't look good, they can't write down the retrofit cost on cooking equipment until it is incurred, and why would a franchisee want to buy the land...that was a big deal that MCD was going to allow them to purchase it.

What is left is a truly cut throat competitive market in the US. Many fast food chains are sell items (ie Burger King's whopper) below cost just to gain market share. Big companies, like Coke are beefing up Wendy's advertising budget $ 140 mill just to get exclusives to sell Coke thru them. How could any of these chains be hot now, domestically, with this price war?
