Thanks for the comments. I looked at the Yeltsin statement and
saw the glass half empty (i.e. he was going to stay), but the
world saw it as half full (he was not running for re-election!).
Further research into the cause of the 11:45 EDT low suggests
the real hero is T-bills (IRX) which broke from 48.3 at about 10:55
hit 48.0 until 11:15, and then fell to 47.8 at 11:35 where it
stayed the rest of the day. This is a big move and suggests a
substantial purchase by the Fed in response to the morning's fall
and the action on the previous day. This is confirmed by the 30 year Treasury bond index (TYX) which "fell" about 5 basis points (after an initial blip) until 11:15 indicating a flight to quality, and then increased about 5 (indicating a flight from quality into stocks) over
the next few hours. I think the "Yeltsin turnaround" is a chance concurrence with fundamental money market movements.

I will watch Zurich and Frankfurt Monday AM.
