Sam, I've gone over some of the same issues you presented in the preceding post many times in my mind. I happen to agree with you to a large extent. The situation gets mired somewhat against the backdrop of the notions inspired by the writings and preachings of the Tofflers' in their series of third wave encyclicals, buoyed by Newt Gingrich et al. Wherein each espouses micro-segmentation in the market place, and diffusion in society in general. And yet, these conditions all seem to be abounding around us and accelerating into the future, for the time being.
Newfound freedoms and affluence are making this a reality in wealthier segments of the world's societies, while just the reverse is occurring in those which are struggling. When fortunes reverse, if in fact they do, maybe we'll see a return to some other model that has worked well in the past, or perhaps a new one altogether. Nuf'boutthat..
See my views in this regard, as it relates to the emerging voice over the Internet (VoIP) sector, in the following message. Please excuse the allusions to the Titanic, per se, in certain instances. I guess I'm not immune to public hype after all... <g>
