Hi Haim:

The communist's who are now pure "Russian Mafia" representative were in a strugle to take over. They failed and agreed on a more reasonable truce.

The latest is that they cancelled the truce. They, the oligarchs and their puppets in the Duma, know that they are in control now. I agree that a Marshall plan for Russia would be in the best interest of the West, but that first requires an admission that one has to start at the bottom. At present, hardly any of the money that is being thrown at Russia goes into any real investment or the buildup of infrastructure. A lot leaves the country immediately to Western creditors, a large fraction goes directly to the Mafia and perhaps a small fraction goes to high-profile, but useless projects. That is not a winning recipe and certainly very different from a Marshall plan.

The West has to stop supporting this unhealthy development. I don't have a solution, but continuing burning money in Russia is certainly not the solution.

I don't see how Russia can shake the market any more as it has already, but this evening's news are certainly not encouraging.

Cheers,

Phil
