Loki: Thanks for your response.

You asked: "From which sources are you drawing your conclusions about this situation?" They are my conclusions.

You said "Your statement concerning Germany is interesting" Presently there is a keenly fought election in Germany and Khol is loosing in the polls. Yesterday, he made a speech in Bavaria, which is a part of the world very susceptible to nationalism, in which he warned of the dire consequences for Germany of Russian unrest etc. The message was that in troubled times Germans should vote for Khol and his knowledge of his "old friend" Yeltsin. Germany is more exposed financially to Russia than any other nation but the quantitites are not critical; as for geo-politics, the threat from Russia are theoretical and a Russia with a collapsing economy would be even less of a threat.

You said "The UK and Austria and France ...please explain". The UK and Austria are currently mobilising the International Monetary Fund and the European Union and the UK is taking the intitiative with the G7 countries.

As for your comments on the Japanese, they are smart and tough and rich and have shown an ability to adapt, I cannot believe that they will just sit there and do nothing. They acted in the last crisis by working with an international alliance to lower interet rates.

Perhaps I am being overly bullish - who knows. However, I have given my reasons. My main concern is that Asia opens before Europe tomorrow and Asia could present obstacles to a fast recovery in the markets espescially if the HK govt stops intervening and the market then the HK market corrects. But the US markets have gone against Asian markets trends many times before.

By the way "English" is European I don't understand your distinction. Irish is also European. The information I base my opinions on is drawn from several European countries.

Thanks again.

Victor
