As for building your own, don't be so hard on yourself. It's not about being a man or not. There are other factors. Do you have the time to learn the technical know how to do it? Do you think you can sufficiently troubleshoot any problems you may encounter? Do you have a backup source you can call on should you get stuck at some point? (Don't say 'the guys at SI')

Those are all things to consider. It's certainly not anything to sell yourself short about, should you not be in the position right now to build your own.
