Mitchell - As, the 3g phones and CDMA products roll out for GSM specs, I want to know that VLSI is in there. Does anybody know the answer, or can we find out ??

I don't actually know whether VLSI product is in the trial deployments of the 3g system, but I wouldn't get too excited about it one way or the other. The reason is that Qualcomm has effectively got blocking IPR for the current version (as ETSI - the standards body - admits) and is refusing to allow its use until the standard is changed to be more backwards compatible with CDMAOne. Thus, although it looks like Ericsson is finally coming to the table with Qualcomm, it is likely to be a while before the 3g actually happens and when it does it is likely to build upon the existing CDMAOne standard for which VLSI is one of the few vendors of ASICs. In any case the first full scale deployments of WCDMA are probably more than 3 years away.
