Japan to cooperate with G7 on Russia -- Nonaka
TOKYO, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Japan would like to cooperate closely with Group of Seven (G7) industrial nations on issues concerning Russia's financial crisis, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiromu Nonaka told a news conference on Monday.
''G7 nations are carefully watching what kind of policies Russia will take. We would like to monitor developments by closely cooperating with G7 nations,'' Nonaka said.

Nonaka also said Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi and Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair spoke about Russia on Sunday by telephone.

Nonaka said Blair told Obuchi that more details of Russia's political situation would be clarified in the next several days, adding that it was important for Russia to implement steps agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Obuchi told Blair it was important for G7 nations to cooperate on Russian issues, Nonaka added.
