Tech Master: Re: October 1 is coming.

True. At least I hope so. I haven't accomplished all that I want to do on this Earth yet. Still haven't read War and Peace. Among others.

However, October 1 is a magic date only in the fact that Federal programs will become susceptible to failures on that date. The failures won't be noticed until the programs are actually executed, which might not be for days or weeks ... or months.

Even then, it will take some time for the problem to be determined as Y2K related. Then, there will be some time before the word of the problem is escalated through the notoriously slow chain of command to the proper authorities, who will immediately commission a project to study the problem and suggest proper action. Hopefully, the recommended action will be to buy software and/or services to fix the problem. This will make it too late for some of the programs because there will be no available staff at the service companies, and the factories will be full to capacity remediating other sites' Y2K code.

All of this will be occurring while the rest of the world's markets are digesting the recent stock market slump/correction/whatever. When the markets have turned around and the buyers are back, the Y2K companies with track records and backlogged business will be the ones to "lead the investment pack".

But, I doubt they will make it to the lofty levels of yesteryear.

Bummer.

Regards,

TED
