Any stock is a great buy only if someone else will pay you more for it when you want to sell it. If your time horison is to profit in 3-6 months, then it may not be such a great deal. If, on the other hand, your objective is to hold on for 5 years, then stocks probably aren't such a bad deal right now.

The problems that are effecting the general market are effecting semis even more - lots of billions have been pumped into production capacity throughout the world and we are in a "supply side" recession. Too many products chasing dwindling liquidity.

The US semi industry has mostly itself to blame - too busy playing macho competitive games with each other to lift their heads up out of the sand to challenge the funding of their overseas competitors huge market grabbing capacity builds. A lot of the Asian and other capacity was financed by US, Japanese and German international banks who now want help from the IMF to bail out their arses. It's long overdue the point that the quibbling directors and CEOs of US & European semi companies stand up and join MU and others to fight for equity! They should be united on this if not on anything else. Now the problem is that a collapse of Asian industry effects the US - it's difficult to lance the boil without spurting puss all over the place. "Gee, how did this mess happen?" - maybe they should ask their kids 11th grade Junior Achievement class.
