From Minneapolis/St. Paul City Business Aug. 31, 1998:

<<Here's one opinion on the performance of Stratasys Inc., the Eden Prairie-based maker of rapid prototype manufacturing equipment: not bad for a company with a smaller-than-anticipated market and a large volume of overseas business.

"Given those sets of circumstances, they're doing well," said John Vareka, an analyst with Minneapolis-based John G. Kinnard & Co. Vareka has a neutral recommendation on Stratasys. "My personal belief is they're still too optimistic, but they remain profitable, they've got lots of good options ahead for them."

Those options, however, are not as big as once thought.

The rapid-prototype marketplace once was thought to be over $1 billion. Now it appears to be perhaps $200 million, though it could grow to several hundred million, Vareka said. "It doesn't appear that the market is as large as we thought two years ago."

Stratasys brought in $15.26 million in revenue during the first six months of 1998. That's 25 percent higher than the first six months of 1997, when Stratasys generated revenue of $12.17 million.

Earnings for the first six months were $446,509, or 7 cents a share. From January through June a year ago, Stratasys had lost $487,298, or 9 cents a share.>>
