Gosh, Let, I don't know how much help I can be here because I look at it a little different. I see HDS as the vehicle to go after the mainframe market both for new systems and in periferals. They have good stuff and the price is right with the dollar/yen situation. This puts them in with the MIS and DBMS people and that gives them a shot at selling the software through the side door which is a hell of a lot easier than the front door. I see the Wyle folks handling the DEC/COMPAC market but there are also a lot of different possibilities there. All DECs experience is medium to large systems and that is where COMPAC is headed. In the middle is where the action will be and why Sand is such a viable thing. With no big expensive changes much more can be achieved. I see mainframes as being pretty passive storage devices and that is the concept the gurues are pushing also. If they don't have to do much in the storage area and yet can vastly increase the use of that information you have a home run.Messing up top is very expensive, in the middle not nearly so.We have tons of information, just lack the tools to use if effectively. Then you have the more specific application uses which i guess addresses many of the various and to some degree partnerships. Just how they work who knows and who cares. To many Sand will be just another tool, to some a key ingredient.
This is the wave of the future. Simply put, complex querries to reduce a volume of information to usable form, neat and concise. You can find information to back any decision you wish.We see that every day, watch the Politicians. To find the right , or more right way , you have to dig a lot deeper, separate the wheat from the chaff.
A perfect example is what is happening today. After the dust settles a lot of things will have changed and new doors open and old doors close.Going to take a lot of strategic changes. Going to be a hell of a market!!! Jack
