Not to nit-pick oh hirsute one . . . But under the law, you do indeed get "credit" for not pulling out your machine gun and "finishing the job." Stabbing me with a knife might get you an aggravated assault charge, or perhaps even attempted murder that you could bargain down, but then pulling out and using a machine gun would certainly have resulted in my death, for which you could very well receive the death penalty in some states. IMO we (Americans especially) love conspiracies, gossip, sex, and anything written about any of the above, especially when it involves people of wealth, fame and power. (And more especially when no one sees us picking it up at the supermarket checkout line!) Partially proven or even just implied, we love scandal and there are those who will pounce on every detail as if it were gold at Sutter's Mill. (Guess what - for some, it is!)
