Some thoughts for consideration: In the time of Paul, it was salt that restrained rotting. Remove it, and within a very short time the decay is significant. So too with the world once the restrainer is removed. Question: How can the Holy Spirit be removed and still have anyone saved during the tribulation? And, if He is here to save, why is He not still restraining? This unnecessary conflict arises with the use of "he" in 2 Thess. 2. And ONLY because of this it is postulated that the He must be the Holy Spirit. Why can't the "he" be the BODY of Christ? (Eph. 2:15: and see the note on this verse in Dake's commentary) Remember that Jesus did NOT say that the Holy Spirit is the Salt of the Earth (although it is through Him that the Church could be salt).
