Mike - regarding your question ... What did you think of the gist? (the "ordinary" person being a big time "plunger" in securities markets) ... I don't know if I have ever actually stated my opinion on stocks, ... here on CBS, I mean here on "the thread," but ... I have had so little interest in stocks that neither my wife or I had a stock brokerage account open (or owned any publicly traded stocks) from around 1991 - 1997. (We re-opened accounts when we learned about QCOM from someone on this thread, who shall remain nameless).

On those rare occasions when I was actually working in a job where there was a (forced) "retirement" savings plan, I always chose the money market fund for 100% of my assets, since the idea (from business school) of "don't work in the securities business and also have your retirement money in an asset class that has nearly perfect positive correlation with your ability to earn a good living" -- made a lot of sense to me.

If one knows something about trading/speculating, commodity futures trading is the only way to go.

If one does not know what they are doing, they will be separated from their money -- slowly (usually) in the stock market, and quickly in the futures market(s).

Jon.
