Siemens Accuses LG Semicon Of Patent Infringement
(1:55 p.m. EDT, 8/31/98)

Germany's Siemens AG has filed a lawsuit against LG Semicon Co. Ltd., charging the South Korean company with infringing seven Siemens' patents related to DRAM chip design.

Filed by Siemens and its subsidiary, Cupertino, Calif.-based Siemens Microelectronics Inc., in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, the suit also names LG's U.S. subsidiary, LG Semicon America Inc.

Siemens is seeking to keep LG from selling the purportedly offending DRAM devices in the U.S. and has also asked the court to award monetary damages.

"Siemens vigorously defends and protects its intellectual property," said Andreas von Zitzewitz, president, memory products, Siemens Semiconductor Group. "We have invested substantial resources in designing, developing, patenting and manufacturing DRAMs and have a strong patent portfolio representing billions of dollars of R&D investment. We will not let LG Semicon use unlicensed intellectual property developed and paid for by Siemens."
