Hi Sam,
The Alberta Foothills run from our southern "border" all the way to the northwestern corner of the province. The "foothills" are nothing more than a range or band of BIG HILLS that lie at the foot of the Rockies on the eastern flank. Turner Valley lies within this band of hills. So does Strachan (but ~75 miles northwest of TV). Waterton is also in the foothills (but ~125 miles south of TV). The sediments in the foothills have been seriously "disturbed" by mountain building activity. There are numerous faults, folds and other structural features which resulted from that activity and which can provide traps for large reservoirs of hydrocarbons. These reservoirs tend to be large, tend to be deep, tend to contain sour hydrocarbons, and tend to contain gaseous hydrocarbons. (Of course, all tendencies have exceptions.)
EEE did pick up acreage at TV at the April 1 land sale, just a small parcel on the northeastern fringe of the Mississippian play being chased by BEA & STF. Is that acreage prospective for the same Mississippian pool tapped into by Esso et al?? Who knows?? EEE didn't have to spend much on it, remember.
You may not enjoy a holiday tonight sam, but it won't be very long and you will want to. You avid Bearcat fans all deserve one!!
For your info, there is one very beautiful sight emanating out of the Turner Valley country tonight!! One huge and brilliant orange flare coming off what appears to be about an 8 inch flarestack. There's also one hell of a lot of black smoke!! And, know what, I don't think it's just a smokey that got forgotten on the BBQ!!!!
Sam, just in case you might think that all I ever do is golf, I'm estimating that tonight the Esso/BKP/BEA/STF well is testing at about 5 MMCF/D along with close to 1,000 bopd of oil/condensate on what would appear to be about a 1/2 inch choke!! I couldn't see the actual flowing tubinghead pressure. Have to get my eyes fixed!! But, like I've said before, this baby will ring the cash register!!
No doubt that RIK will continue to GUESS that the Esso well doesn't have any reserves and that it is not actually capable of producing any hydrocarbons. That way he won't mislead us into believing that the well might be a commercial success!!
Later, grayhairs
P.S.-- Anyone driving through TV country tonight may well be seeing a bit of "history in the making"--> Turner Valley II, The Sequel. |
