re margin account: Lee you are absolutely right. Actually, aside from Dell I have had big gains in my margin account(s) that I did not take and they have evaporated. That in itself would have saved my margin structure. I will be more disciplined in the future, have been too lax with a risky investment. Covered calls (selling) I am discovering would have helped me too. Datek doesnt do those yet unfortunately (they keep promising but...) and Fido hasnt approved me for them yet, silly really because there is no risk to the broker on covered calls.
