It was no humour, Serge... Besides, I must tell you that I'm not Belgian and I don't have any sort of ''inferiority complex'' with regard to France. Again, like Henry, you're appraising this issue on the wrong track --emotionally. Hey, we're talking cold-blooded, cynical real politik!
Regarding the assassination of JFK... Well, again, you're off target: obviously I favor the conspiracy track but as suggested by Mark Lane, who was involved in the Hoover Commission and who later wrote Plausible Denial. JFK was not murdered by the mob, nor by this moron Oswald! JFK was hit by the CIA --plain and simple. Kennedy wanted to retreat from Vietnam and he wanted to ''fix'' the CIA after it blundered in the Cuban operation. This was not to please the pro-military establishment, hence, he's just been terminated with extreme prejudice. His successor, Pres. Johnson, instead of finding a way out of the Vietnam War, went full steam ahead with it!
Well... enough said... Tell me, Serge, why even English has retained the French expression raison d'Etat?
More Belgian jokes to follow...
