I think you would like that book I referenced yesterday :) I was reading some of it again last night. Btw my responses on this subject are not really emotional but more cynical bemusement, a very French posture in honor of the topic.

Re Kennedy there is very little evidence that Kennedy was considering withdrawal from Viet Nam. That concept grew out of the late 60s when the anti-war movement tried to reconcile their childhood hero's involvement with the war they opposed. Anyway everyone knows Kennedy was really killed by the mafia because his brother was cracking down on the mob. Or was it because he was sleeping with Sam Giancana's girlfriend Judith Exener. Or was he killed by the Cubans for trying to kill Castro? Or maybe it was the French because they were offended that he was sexier than DeGaulle? That's it! It's the French again.

Btw re Raison d'Etat, the English may have retained it but not the Americans. You never hear that term over here. We refer to National Security issues or Executive privelege. But we do retain alot of French in American English. There is French toast and French Fries and French kiss and my personal favorite French ticklers. I do however regret the decline in popularity of French postcards, ooh lala ;)
