Hyundai Electronics to Intensify Nonmemory Semicon Biz
September 1, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. one of Korea's top three electronics firms, said it will focus on the nonmemory semiconductor business.
It is targeting US$1 billion in annual sales by the year 2001.

Hyundai's nonmemory business at domestic and foreign plants has averaged US$100 million in sales per year.

Products to be focused on include merged memory with logics (MMLs), image sensors for video data storage, semiconductors for satellite broadcasting and MPEG-4 codec microchips.

"We already have the technology to design 0.35-micron nonmemory semiconductors, so we are planning to upgrade our production facilities," company officials said.

Hyundai said it expects to produce merged chips worth US$500 million a year, and US$200 million in image sensors annually by the target year.
