Falklands oil stocks boosted by Shell internet rumour

LONDON [AFX] - Shares in Desire Petroleum PLC and the other quoted Falkland Islands based oil explorers were marked sharply higher following reports on the internet that Royal Dutch/Shell has decided to prolong its drilling in the area by two weeks. Shell was not immediately available for comment.

The internet report, on the hemscott 'information exhange' site, claimed that Shell is due to hand over its Borgny Dolphin rig to Sodra Petroleum at the end of August but has held on for a further fortnight. At 3:14 PM, Desire's shares were up 17-1/2 pence at 145 pence, Westmount Energy were 1-1/2 pence better at 77-1/2 pence and Greenwich Resources were 1/2 pence firmer at 17-1/2 pence. tjzw/ln/
