The BW 98 scores for a CeleronA 333/66 was 25.1 and the Pentium II was 25.4. Hardly the 10% difference that Intel wants you to believe.

Intel's marketing is probably assuming that the platforms are going to be different. I didn't see any graph at Intel's web site comparing the Celeron to the Pentium II head-on. And why should there be any on Intel's web site, considering that they are positioning the Celeron and the Pentium II for different markets?

Intel will sell more than a fair amount of the Celeron As, unfortunately for Intel, a lot will cannibalize the Pentium II.

I always figured that the cannibalization of the Pentium II is necessary. If the Pentium II is slated for a feast, Intel wants to make sure that AMD doesn't get a bite.
