E4 Announces CoolStream MPEG2/DVD [Cube inside] with Macromedia Director Support for WinNT, Win95/98 and Mac OS

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1998--

E4's Cross-Platform Solution Allows Developers to Create

MPEG2/DVD Streaming Applications with E4's Hardware for

WinNT, Win95/98 and Mac OS

E4 (Elecede Technologies, Inc.), a leading developer of state-of-the-art DVD, video and graphics products for the PC and Macintosh markets, announced that it has incorporated a Macromedia Xtra Plug-in for its CoolStream MPEG2/DVD Streaming solution.

The CoolStream MPEG2/DVD Streaming card combined with the CoolStream software development kit (SDK), allows developers to easily incorporate broadcast quality video for network video or Director based applications on Windows NT, Windows 95/98 and Mac OS platforms.

CoolStream is a perfect solution for MPEG2/DVD streaming video-on-demand (VOD) applications such as informational kiosks, distance learning, training and broadcast video on terrestrial or satellite-based systems. With the addition of the Xtra plug-in CoolStream is the perfect vehicle to produce and publish high quality training and informational applications.

CoolStream is also fully DVD compliant allowing for the interactive playback of DVD movies and interactive titles. CoolStream MPEG2/DVD Streaming playback card works on Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Mac OS 8.x.

"This is what the DVD market has been waiting for," said Michael Schmitt, Director of Business Development for E4. "With CoolStream, MPEG2 video streams, and a DVD-RAM drive, corporations, schools and government agencies can now develop and product their own high quality MPEG2 applications using Macromedia's Director."

E4 will be releasing plug-in support for Active X, Internet Explorer and Netscape in the next release due Oct. 15. E4 provides the world's first and only cross-platform API for Windows95/98, Windows NT and Mac OS. "This opens up exciting opportunities for the development community to create video on demand, training and presentation applications without having to worry about which platform the product will be deployed on."

CoolStream utilizes the ZiVA DVD decoder from C-Cube, and Auravision's VxP524 Video Stream Processor to provide hardware processing for both video and audio playback without burdening the CPU. This leaves the CPU to work on other time-critical tasks while providing the highest quality video processing to client applications.

The CoolStream SDK includes components to develop applications rapidly on Borland C++ Builder and Delphi and includes DLLs to work with most 32-bit compilers such as Visual C++, Code Warrior, C++ Builder.

CoolStream requires a PC/Mac with a Pentium 100 MHz or PowerPC 603, 120 MHz or higher and 16MB RAM, PCI 2.1 expansion slot, VGA graphics card/on-board graphics with NT 4.0, Windows 95/98 or Mac OS 8.x
