Ancor to Provide Gigabit Switching for Installation Phase of Boeing's AWACS Program PR Newswire - September 01, 1998 15:13
Company Announces Additional Contract of $1.9M for AWACS Upgrade
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Ancor Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR) announced today that it has received an additional contract for approximately $1.9M from aerospace and defense industry leader Boeing (NYSE: BA) for several GigWorks Fibre Channel switches. The switches, expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 1998, will be used for Boeing's 707 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) Extend Sentry Program, an AWACS upgrade program currently being implemented by the company's Information, Space & Defense Systems group.
Ancor President Cal Nelson said the GigWorks Fibre Channel solution has proven itself up to the challenge to perform in the AWACS environment, where mission-critical command and communications systems cannot be compromised.
Ancor's GigWorks switches will be installed as part of an overall upgrade of the AWACS aircraft. The switches will be a component of an on-board network that will deliver important radar and command control data for decision support.
