I believe that's IDSL, and it's real. It is essentially 128 kbps
ISDN BRI dedicated for internet access. From it's description, it
sonds like the same kind of deal as Nortel's Thruway I-Link.
It's basically used to meet the immediate congestion problems
Telcos are facing as a result of IP (internet) traffic.
Instead of being connected to the Telco's central switches and
plugging up their valuable timeslots, the IP traffic is diverted
at the CO into routers; thus freeing up the timeslots for traditional
voice traffic.

Methinks this type of technology may have a possible short term
future (next 2 years) until ADSL matures. The traffic congestion
problem is immediate, and Telcos may not be able to wait long
enough for large-scale ADSL deployment.

Tim.
