I would submit that the world is stagnating already, with or without Asia and Russia. Latin America follows in the tracks of Asia while the whole of Europe sits in the shadow of a pensive Russia. If Russia falls into calamity and chaos, markets will choke. Mexico and Canada have raised interest rates to protect capital flows and commodity prices are in a severe downdraft. Heavy supplies, bargain prices: muted wealth.

The bull market has run this far and this fast because of the promise of rampant global growth as new economies emerge to partake of our commodity and high tech exports. All the evidence points to a malaise in the world that will be long and protracted.

Today's bull run was impressive but I don't expect the uptrend to last very long. There is still a lot of fear, bewilderment and uncertainty out there. As for Abby, she is evidently a permanent bear. One does have to commend her for sticking to her guns, even in the face of a titanic avalanche.
