''In October of '87 we rode it out, didn't get excited,'' Beardstown member Ann Brewer, 65, said Tuesday in a telephone interview. In the October 1987 sell-off, stocks fell more than 22 percent in one day.
"I really don't think we're panicking," said Brewer.
''We certainly haven't called a special meeting,'' she said. ''Most of us -- even though we have advanced ages -- are in for the long term. We feel like we have good companies.
''I wish we had a crystal ball like everybody else,'' she added with a chuckle.
Vice President Maxine Thomas, 77, said the market's recent sell-off provides buying opportunities.
''It's really a buying time if you want to get some good companies,'' she said. ''It's nothing to get excited about. At least we're not.''
...Ann and Maxine were last seen hanging precariously off of Tommy-G's Harley-Davidson, swinging a bottle of Jack Daniels at a bevy of bystanding Wall Street brokers, yelling: "Do Ya Feel Lucky, Punk ?"
