The stock exchange said on
Wednesday short selling on shares of
HSBC Holdings Plc, Hong Kong
Telecommunications Ltd and China
Telecom (Hong Kong) Ltd was
temporarily suspended from
Wednesday until further notice and the
settlement backlog of these shares was
cleared.
Brokers said the government
probably did not want speculators to
benefit from short selling the three
stocks, which might be squeezed higher
on Wednesday and Thursday by
short-covering.
