I'm not sure what you mean by lumpy order stream - CPQ helps Intel's mfg process by providing specific manufacturing targets well into the future and takes delivery when they say they will. CPQ is also Intel's largest customer. I'm sure that Intel is very happy with Dell's attitude and equally sure that their pricing is not affected by their emotions. Dell's purchasing pattern, which is not as predictable as CPQ's, imposes additional costs on Intel, and therefore from a business perspective is not as desirable.

The customers like CPQ which provide a very substantial and predictable order stream are essential to Intel's ability to maintain high efficiency. If everyone was on the Dell model Intel would have substantially increased costs.
