FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- American Eagle, the world's largest regional airline, posted record systemwide traffic and passenger boardings for the month of August. American Eagle is the regional affiliate of American Airlines.

The airline recorded systemwide traffic of 257.4 million revenue passenger miles for the month of August, up 9.2 percent year over year, and a record for the month. The airline also boarded a record 1,194,836 passengers for the month, an increase of 7.9 percent year over year.

American Eagle's capacity rose 6.9 percent year over year to 394.1 million seat miles, resulting in a 1.3 point increase in load factor to 65.3 percent. Contributing to the airline's record traffic and boardings is American Eagle's jet service from its Chicago hub into key markets such as Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Dayton, Ohio; Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Shreveport, La., and Indianapolis.

American Eagle, wholly owned by AMR Corp., operates 1,500 flights a day to 126 cities throughout the United States, Canada, The Bahamas and the Caribbean.
