I take it that you were commenting on 'Taking Stock'.

I agree with you that you just can't pop a stock to the analysts and get a meaningful response. And it's obvious that the replies are not off-the-cuff.

However, I think the initial question is 'how much before air time does one need to call to get to ask about a stock?'. I grant that there must be some screening of the stocks selected, so that we don't get a bunch of esoteric stocks with a couple of hundred shareholders or so that we don't get hype campaigns on the air. Nonetheless, I get tired of always getting opinions on DELL, T, INTC, CPQ, etc. I think CNBC needs to up the percentage of second-tier stocks (like ATI, FDX, PIR, SFSK, etc.).

Given that a stock isn't a mini/microcap out of left field, I think a guest analyst (with preparation time) ought to be able to comment on a pretty wide range of stocks.

What time do we need to call to be able to get on the air?
