ECD may hold patents in phase change technology, but there are many other patents -- perhaps hundreds -- that are critical and essential to DVD-RAM technology. You can bet that a number of the key patents are held by the members of the DVD Forum that wrote the specification for DVD-RAM. Nonetheless, ECD has done quite well with its phase-change patents.
