Japan DBS Close To 1 Million Subscriber Mark

Japan's two digital satellite companies have enrolled more than 990,000 subscribers, according to company data for the end of August, positioning the fledgling industry for the one million mark, a milestone it should pass this month.
SkyPerfecTV reported a total of 834,000, while DirecTV Japan said it had 160,000 for its service.
SKYPerfecTV, backed by News Corp., Softbank and others, offers 170 channels. DirecTV plans to increase its number of channels from the current 88 to more than 150 by year-end in hopes of closing the gap with its competitor.
