Carter - Re: " I have read that INTC, in order to standardize all of its fabs, selects a single "vendor of choice" for each type of equipment. "

Intel has been using PRIA automation equipment/software since at least 1994 - most likely before this.

I have heard of no effort to "oust" PRIA, and Intel's Copy Exactly policy has been working pretty well with PRIA equipment. Also, PRIA is making good progress with equipment suppliers for automation of the load/unload docking for wafer I/O top these tools - Applied and K & S are two of them.

PRIA has also bought Equipe so they are adding small robotic handleers to their equipment arsenal. In addition, PRIA bought Interval Logic, a software specialist for Wafer Fab automation.

And to top it off, PRIA has added Ken Thompson to its Board of Directors. Before his recent retirement, Ken was for many years a VP of Technology Manufacturing Engineering at Intel and, prior to that, was head of all off-shore assembly operations.

That should help keep PRIA close to Intel.

I know AMD uses DAIFUKU in their Fab 25 (Austin factory) but last year they were seriously looking at PRIA for the Dresden (Fab 30) factory.
