>I think people are... a little afraid of the Starr report...<
I'm even more afraid of Starr-ism.
Down deep, I think most Americans are, too.
MG...sorry but I think you are flashing signs of denial, and supporting my belief that Americans are a little afraid of what the Starr report may contain.
First, you talk of "Starr-ism", evidently a take-off on "McCarthyism"? Like witch hunts and sex-police delving into everyone's private sex lifes?
No, I don't think so, not at all. For one thing, name the threat. Who's going to be asking? Clinton's sex life was delved into because he was standing as defendent in a sexual harassment trial. So yes, it was a sexual issue of sorts. The lawyers were wondering what other relationships of a sexual nature Clinton may have had, and the nature of those relationships. Were they of the "Man in power gets young female underling to take off her underthings, in exchange maybe for continued nice treatment?" Was it implied that the nice treatment would cease if said female underling put her underthings back on before the President wanted her to?
MG, you know what is so very sad about the whole episode? Nobody seems to care that Monica Lewinsky was indeed a WH employee, and she was shamelessly exploited, and not just for sex. Her emotions were grossly manipulated by Our President. People are so quick to call her an "adult" when in fact she was only in her second year of legal adulthood.
So yes, the President's relationship with Monica was very pertinent to the Jones sexual harassment case IMO, even if the duped judge Susan W-W had second thoughts about it and decided it wasn't relevant or pertinent. I wonder what convinced her that the President's sexual relationship with a 19 year-old employee wasn't pertinent to a different charge of sexual harassment? Hmmm??? Perhaps because since the President was denying the relationship in the most firm manner that the judge didn't want to push the issue with him?
Your reference to Starr-ism is a plain attempt to divert attention from the soon-to-be defendent of the Starr report. Who's afraid? Why the attempt to shift focus? Isn't that the same tactic used by the O.J. Simpson attorneys? Shift focus to the police? I think that tactic is kinda used up. But that's just my opinion.
Clearly the extended honeymoon that Clinton has enjoyed with the American voters has gone stale. Bold new agendas from this administration are kind of distant dreams from here. Meanwhile, Iraq thumbs its collective nose at the US, and goes back to rebuilding their weapons of mass destruction.
or did you think that Saddam will be a good boy now that he's succeeded in boldly throwing out the arms inspectors? |
