Hi Barbara:

I have seen that overlay chart of 98 and 29 too many times.IMHO we won't have 1929 but to many it will FEEL like 1929!Your call on the first leg down is pretty severe

I am not calling for a repeat of 29. The Western economies are still pretty sound and, while the crash may cause a recession, I think it would be a short one. I also don't really believe in overinterpreting historical comparisons. Each crash will be unique. The historical comparison just shows you the magnitude and speed at which these things can happen. 35 % for the first leg doesn't really sound severe to me.

By the way, you may find it hard to believe, but I am usually an optimist by nature.

Regards,

Phil
