All,

In a previous post, I asked if anyone else was participating on IBIS Technology (NASDAQ: IBIS), the company that licensed the Silicon On Insulator technology to IBM. Since no one answered, I have to assume that the answer is no.

In the IBM press releases the company touted the SOI technology, that will give the next generation PowerMac a 30% performance boost on top of the gains from copper, as IBM developed. Yet the source of the manufacturing equipment, the SOI implanters, is IBIS. And IBIS has a license agreement with IBM to manufacture their own implanters.

So, I would like to take a spot poll of the group. Lets have a show of hands: How many people even knew that the SOI technology was licensed?

Does anyone know if IBIS, founded in 1987, was part of the original joint technology development effort between IBM and Motorola? Is there an ownership link to IBM which would justify IBM's claim to have developed the SOI technology?

HerbVic

P.S. I bought an iMac.
