Company to Provide Technology for MindSpring's Online Classics
SEATTLE, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- go2net, Inc. (Nasdaq: GNET), a leader in providing technology- and community-driven Web sites ( go2net.com ), today announced that it has signed a co-branding agreement to deliver PlaySite games on the Web site of MindSpring Enterprises, Inc. (Nasdaq: MSPG). MindSpring ( mindspring.com ), is a leading Internet service provider with over 393,000 customers nationwide.
The agreement gives MindSpring the ability to offer users access to a full-featured multiplayer Java gaming and chat community directly from the ISP's home page. go2net has signed and continues to pursue similar agreements with prominent sites that wish to offer users easy-to-use community-based games.
Financial terms of this agreement were not disclosed.
MindSpring will be given access to a co-branded version of the PlaySite Java games technology, developed by go2net Labs and hosted on go2net's servers. This games technology is currently implemented on go2net's own PlaySite ( playsite.com ), and on the Lycos Games ( playsite.lycos.com ) service. Games include Chess, Checkers, Backgammon, Hearts, Spades, Gin, Cribbage, and other popular games. The technology also offers community features such as player ratings, instant messaging, and automated tournaments.
According to a recent Jupiter Communications study entitled Internet Games: Five Year Outlook, free game play will remain a key force in the online market. In extending its list of partners and licensees, go2net is positioning itself to benefit from this continuing trend.
