<<Why do people insist on believing the myth that he is doing a "good job" for the country? >>

This one's easy. If people are comfortable, the President, whoever he/she may be, is doing a good job. If they are not comfortable, he's doing a bad job. We've had a good economy, low interest rates, low unemployment and no major armed conflict resulting in lots of dead Americans. Therefore, Clinton has done a good job. How does he manage to get credit for this? That one I don't know. Is the world about to blow up in our faces? Most Americans will refuse to see the problems until they actually blow up, at which time it's too late to do anything about them. Normally, The President would get the blame for that blowup, but somehow the blame will be put on the vast right-wing conspiracy for not allowing Clinton to put his full attention on the problems (as if he would have done anything to fix them).
