institutions are required to keep a certian percentage of their investments in stocks. company management, company sponsored pension programs make up another large section of stock ownership. self-directed 401Ks, and individual ownership through mutual funds or otherwise make up the smallest percent of the stock ownership pie. energy and semi-conductor companies (among others) have been buying back their stock in record numbers during this downturn. the total available inventory of stocks continues to shrink while future demand is increasing with more individuals moving assets to self-directed programs and 401K type programs worldwide. the allocated percent of stock ownership through institutions and company/state sponsored pension programs continue to rise worldwide. world population continues to increase by 80 million annually. demand for technology continues to increase. the standard of living in emerging markets has continued to increase despite Asia. wall street continues to spread their gospel of stock ownership worldwide through the internet; i.e., owning a stock will be made easier through e-trade, datek, and other like firms.

owning stocks is no longer a simple matter of company earnings/revenue growth. it's becoming a worldwide requirement. Dell is among a select group of companies that are producing significant earnings and revenue growth both past and future. it's more probable that the market will party for a while before they sober up and get ready for the next upleg.
