OK Don, Today, there are worries about all currencies. For 10000 years Gold was a currency, that has fallen out of favor (in the short term IMHO) in today's world. OK, I'll give you that we need great computer companies, software companies, as well as many other sectors. My worry is that many form the computer world forget the basic materials that make the world work. To thsi end, they push the market caps through the roof. Let's face it, did a computer ever plow or plant a field? OK, we must all get it straight, there is no substitute for gold! Nothing has a greater conductivity. Nothing has a lower reactivity. These two factors alone make it have an ongoing worth in medicine and electronics. Some of that medical gold is lost forever. No substance on earth is more maleable. It is highly reflective, a coating only 6 molecules thick over a window will reduce UV transmission by 95%. Can we say energy impact? and what make it a great money? It is rare, no government can ever print any more of it. It can be recovered, recycled, but the dear Lord ain't makin any more. Should you dump your rmbs, and buy gold? I doubt it, but I do not give market advice. But, What are your time horizons for your stock market money? Can you say without any fear that when you retire (or even next year), there will not be, double digit inflation? See, I'm in the business of buying low and selling high. Gold is at an all time (non-regulated) low price. Do I expect that the world will once again(it has before)swing to gold? YES! am I wed to it - NO! One day (who knows when) even you will want or need something made of gold. When all of you do, the mining companies I own will sell it to you. Do you remember the early 70s? Wang was a very hot stock. where is it now? Am I heavy in gold now? Yes, because the world is light. In the future, I'll be light in gold and heavy in????? I just think everythig has a place, and when 3/4 of the investing world does not want something I may just want it. You know, buy straw hats in the winter??? But this market is saying nothing but a few consumer companies, and the DIJA, and the internet companies, and the NASDAQ have any value. just try and eat those electrons. |
