I must admit that I am in a quandary on what I would like to see happen in the mid to low range server market. I want the NT+Sql Server+DELL combination to go like gangbusters, because that is where the growth for DELL will be for a while. However, I am saddened by the fact that it looks like MSFT will dominate in the enterprise as it does in the consumer market.
I still think that NT is not ready, due to its reliability problems, but, from what you have said, it looks like SQL server 7 is a very high quality product. Dave Cutler (DEC guy who designed VMS) was lured away from DEC to create NT and he also hired the top guys. How can people compete with the hiring power of MSFT and its stock options?
