Clipped from the San Fransisco Business Times... RUMORED DEAL: Ascend Communications is said to be negotiating to acquire Advanced Computer Communications, its Santa Barbara-based competitor. Advanced was looking to go public early in 1997 with the help of San Francisco investment bank Hambrecht & Quist and splinter from its parent Newbridge Networks of Canada. But those plans will be shelved if Ascend and Advanced Computer Communications strike a merger deal. Newbridge Networks has chosen Ascend's remote access hub over a comparable product that was being developed by Advanced. Sources also claim Ascend and Newbridge are talking about a strategic relationship in which Newbridge would manufacture the Ascend gigarouter.
