Thank you it was exactly (although belatedly) along my line of thought. After I posted, I thought of the $600 million in cash that BGEN is sitting with and concluded they and the other companies you mentioned would be likely purchasers if it transpires. They understand the science, the value, etc. An LBO shop or corporate outsider (the rumored Dupont) isn't as likely to see the value or feel that they could succeed where current management failed. The only other possibilty I can think of is very wealthy individuals such as the ICOS founders: Rathmann understands the industry and, well, we know what the other guy brings with him.
On the other issue maybe not so much GE but DELL and others of its kind. Good companies yes, but certainly a more uncertain world economy now than six months ago.
