"The TAT-14 Cable network is a 1997 initiative of 11 carriers --AT&T Corp., British Telecom, Cable & Wireless Plc, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, KPN Telecom NV, MCI Corp., Pacific Gateway Exchange, Sprint Corp., Swisscom and Telia."

Ken,
I got too much stuff in my head. Can your refresh my memory and save me some research time. What just happened recently with the AT&T merger(?) with British Telecom(it was this year, not 1997)? I recall they weren't really going to, "merge," but were going to create a separate entity that would drop this fiber optic cable in the Atlantic Ocean. Sounds like this is the new "entity?"

If so, you would have thought they would have given it a name, besides TAT-14. Plus, they never said anything about getting 11 other carriers involved. I thought I listened to their live press conference and they never mentioned anything about any other partners.

This is a big project. Pretty exciting news. I cannot possible imagine it being done by 2000. But at least it's a goal they can shoot for. A couple of the fiber makers have taken a bath recently. I wonder if something like this will help them boost their stock price. I'm thinking of Corning Incorporated, for one.
