Ray -- The article's right on. Dan Morrison from Bloomberg asked Steenbergen how many players there were and JS said about 20 to 25 involved right now and "more every day." He went on to say there would be consolidations through partnerships and alliances narrowing the field to 8 to 10 large players. Later when Morrison asked about Amati's partners, he said they had their semiconductor equipment alliances all in place and were now looking for data communications and telecommunications partners. Here they were looking to supply the technology for a product fee or up to 20% of the business. I suspect this means they'd like to be the second source for someone like Alcatel. At another point in the interview, JS said they were actively working with several ISPs right now and looking to be involved with several more. "They're finally finding out how to be involved," he said. Morrison asked for names and JS said they couldn't be revealed at this time. In closing, Morrison asked if there was a narrow window of opportunity for ADSL technology and if it was closing fast, and JS used Ray Smith's comment, "The technology will be around for the next 40 years.. . It'll be here way past when I'll be running this company." The interview was very straight forward. Pat
